Occupational exposure and cancer: an umbrella review

Abstract Objective: to provide an overview of the associations between occupational exposure and risk occurrence or death from cancer. Methods: this umbrella review used Medline Web Science databases. Based on search protocol, meta-analysis was included for several circumstances selected cancers that had some level evidence associated with occupation. Results: 37 were included, covering 18 cancer locations. By assessing heterogeneity studies, quality evidence, strength association, results highly indicated solvent multiple myeloma, asbestos lung cancer, hydrocarbons upper aerodigestive tract stress colorectal Conclusion: robust shows association exposures types not initially foreseen in guidelines work-related surveillance Brazil. Gaps relevant require further research more consistent meta-analysis, including: inorganic dust mesothelioma; solvents hematological tumors. Evidence other anatomical regions less robust, showing signs uncertainty bias.
